A challenge to A.R.R

With or without a Golden Globe or an Academy Award, A.R.Rahman, with his compositions and humility is undoubtedly the nation's darling. Ever thought someone would actually challenge creative wizard who is equally at ease with any style of music?

It is none other than Jagjit Singh who has asked Rahman to prove his skill in churning out Ghazals. The Ghazal guru said "What does A.R.Rahman know about Ghazals? He will never use a Ghazal in his films. All they do is pick tunes from the West". Mr.Singh also let out his disdain for the present style of music in Bollywood.

Terming the language of today's music as "tapori", he said that in the 1960s and 70s the music had its soul in Ghazals, whereas today there is absolutely no poetry in the choice of words that make up a song.

Putting forth an example Jagjit Singh asks "What kind of lyrics are "Pappu can't dance saala?". Freedom to express opinions can be understood, but it would have been a lot better if the highly respected singer had asked Rahman personally to come up with a good Ghazal track than speaking to the media.
