Happy Birthday Kamal Hasan

Kamal Haasan was born on November 7, 1954 in Paramakudi, Tamilnadu, India

Kamal Hasan made his film debut as a 6-year-old child artiste, in the 1960 film, Kalathur Kannamma, directed by A. Bhimsingh. He was cast along with the veteran Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan in the film, which won him the National Film Award for Best Child Artiste. He also acted as a child actor in five other Tamil films co-starring with Sivaji Ganesan and MG Ramachandran

Kamal then concentrated on his studies and returned to the silver screen in 1972. He played supporting roles in Arangetram, Sollathaan Ninaikkiren and Naan Avanillai.

Today Kamal has accomplished achievements as an actor, producer, director, screenplay writer, lyricist, playback singer and choreographer. His film production company Rajkamal International is a well known institution.

Kamal Haasan as a lead actor started with his role in the 1975 in the film Apoorva Raagangal. With Moondram Pirai and Mani Ratnam’s Nayagan (1987) he established himself as an actor worth reckoning.

Kamal Haasan first received a regional Filmfare Award for acting for his role in the Malayalam film Kanyakumari (1974). In the next four years, he won six regional Best Actor Filmfare Awards, including four consecutive Best Tamil Actor Awards.

Kamal’s collaboration with K. Balachander produced films such as Avargal (1977), Moondru, Mudichu, Manmadha Leelai, and Oru Oodhappu Kan Simittugiradhu. The films that gave him recognition were 16 Vayathinile, Sigappu Rojakal, Ninaithale Inikkum and Neeya.

In the mid-1980’s, Haasan appeared in two legendary Telugu language films, Sagara Sangamam and Swathi Muthyam with director, K Viswanath.

Kamal enacted 10 different roles in Dasavatharam and he is now busy with Marmayogi.
